Kia Ora and thank you for your query regarding a holiday here in our special paradise. One of the many features of this unique part of the world are our close community relationships and in times such as these, those relationships are more important than ever. This is especially the case being remote, and isolated with limited health services.
For these reasons, we are working with our community to keep everyone collectively safe, by closing for the 2021/22 Summer season.
This is a part of a broader community approach to collective safety, which includes the closure of key tourism sites, such as the East Cape Lighthouse track, and the Mount Hikurangi track, and similar communications to the motorhomes association and annual bike tour operators.
These measures will give our isolated communities time to increase protective measures such as vaccination rates and community health services. We anticipate that these will be well established by late Summer, and look forward to welcoming all back with open arms in Summer 2022/23.
Thank you for your understanding and have a safe and happy holiday season with your family.
